Looking to make a difference? SAVE DARFUR..

SAVE DARFUR PARTNERS WITH PROPR TO CREATE ORIGINAL TEE SHIRTS

Globally conscious brands unite to raise funds and awareness for suffering in Sudan

Washington, DC (November 30, 2009) – The Save Darfur Coalition is proud to announce the launch of an original T-shirt in partnership with California based clothing brand, Propr. With the support of Propr owners this T-shirt will feature a unique design that is symbolic of the Coalition’s ongoing efforts in the Darfur region of Sudan, Africa.

“Propr is honored to work with the Save Darfur Coalition to raise awareness of the human rights abuses in Darfur; every action, whether big or small, can make a difference to those suffering,” said Propr owner and Save Darfur supporter, David Arquette.

As the first action in the charity partnership with Save Darfur, Propr’s classic style and unique vision is infused throughout the original design printed on the American made organic cotton T-shirts. Best described as ‘clothing with a conscience,’ the goal of the collaboration was to create a new way to connect with customers while bringing a heightened awareness and funding to the coalition’s mission.

“We are thrilled that Propr is standing with us to advocate for the millions of Darfuris whose voices cannot be heard from refugee camps in and around Sudan. Their situation remains critical - with rape, intimidation and insecurity still very much a part of everyday life,” states Jerry Fowler, President, Save Darfur Coalition.

The shirt will have its official launch debut on December 17th at Propr in Venice, California. Both Propr and its neighboring store Jexy will give back 10% of the total sales for the day to Save Darfur Coalition.

T-shirts can be purchased online at http://www.savedarfur.org and at http://www.proprclothing.com/.

The shirts will also be available for sale at Propr, 1306 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Venice, CA. Proceeds will support advocacy efforts to end the suffering of the people in Darfur, which continues today with almost three million Sudanese still displaced from the genocide.

About Save Darfur Coalition: The Save Darfur Coalition – an alliance of more than 180 faith-based, advocacy and human rights organizations – raises public awareness about the ongoing genocide in Darfur and mobilizes a unified response to the atrocities that threaten the lives of people throughout the Darfur region. The coalition’s member organizations represent 130 million people of all ages, races, religions and political affiliations united together to help the people of Darfur. www.SaveDarfur.org.

Background on the Conflict in Darfur: The conflict in Darfur began in the spring of 2003 when two rebel groups launched attacks against the government military in an effort to stop the marginalization of Darfur. The Sudanese government responded with coordinated military raids targeting ethnic groups that were associated with the rebel groups. Over 400 villages were completely destroyed and millions of civilians were forced to flee their homes and now live in displacement camps.

It is estimated that between 2003 and 2005, roughly 300,000 people were killed, and in 2004, former-President George W. Bush declared the conflict a “genocide.” Today, fighting continues in the Darfur region, and almost 3 million civilians are still living in insecure camps and cannot return home.
